Elwood Jones was sentenced to death after being convicted for the 1994 murder of Rhoda Nathan, a guest at the hotel where he worked as a custodian. He has always maintained his innocence and absolutely denied involvement in Ms. Nathan’s death.
Ms. Nathan was found unconscious on the floor of the hotel suite she occupied at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Blue Ash, Ohio, on September 3, 1994. She had been badly beaten and two of her teeth had been knocked out. Blood was found in several places in the room. Ms. Nathan was also without a necklace that family and friends said she wore constantly. No one witnessed the attack.
Elwood Jones had been working in the hotel on that day, and he voluntarily submitted to police questioning. Several other employees reported seeing Elwood working that day and remembered him being clean and acting normally. A cut on Elwood’s hand that he received while taking out trash on the morning of Ms. Nathan’s death later became infected, and he sought treatment and workers compensation for his injury. After police learned about Elwood’s cut, they focused on him as a suspect. Police searched Elwood’s car, and his and a friend’s residences, and questioned him at the station. But none of the blood, fingerprint, or trace evidence collected from the scene of the crime, nor from Elwood’s car, clothing, or other possessions, matched him with the crime scene or the victim. To this day, zero forensic evidence ties Elwood to Ms. Nathan’s homicide.

This website is inaccurate. There was plenty of evidence. How about the lady’s necklace in the trunk of his car for one. I don’t know who writes this site but they do no research.

No evidence? If you read the police report, Jones was extremely uncooperative from the moment the police arrived at the hotel to question all of the employees (not just him). He attempted to evade being questioned and refused to cooperate until compelled to under threat of arrest. He changed his story several times; meanwhile, the victim’s blood and her belongings (including a rare necklace) were found in the trunk of Jones’ car. The infection on his head was forensically linked to bacteria which could only be found on the victim’s teeth, acquired when Jones struck her in the mouth. Marks on the victim’s face matched a door chain and walkie-talkie which Jones had with him at the time of the murder and afterwards. The evidence was overwhelming and Jones was convicted by the jury after 10 hours of deliberation. His primary defense was that the police framed him, planted evidence, and teh prosecutor and judge were out to get him because he was black. His execution date, by the way, was just set for early 2019.

This website is a joke and left out EVERY factual evidence collected by officials that pointed definitively at Elwood Jones. Elwood deserves to die. End of story. There’s no saving a monster like that.

Fact #1 He did NOT attempt to evade questioning. He did comply with police.
Fact #2 The only thing that was linked to the victim in his trunk was the pendant. They said the chains in his trunk MAY HAVE been used but never forensically proved it. There was no blood on his clothing, there were no hairs either. His shoes did NOT match the print in the blood.
Fact #3 The bacteria that caused the infection in his hand was NOT forensically matched as coming from Mrs. Nathan’s mouth. It was only stated that the only place you can get that type of infection from that type of bacteria is from the HUMAN mouth. That does not mean it actually came from her mouth.
If you’re going to make comments know your facts.

Was it proven BEYOND a reasonable doubt that he in fact did do it? Most definitely NOT.
Have there been cases of people being framed because of their background? Yes there has MANY MANY TIMES.

What happened to this woman was absolutely monstrous and truly sad. But when looking at the case they chains hadn’t even been tested for her tissue or blood. The only SINGLE thing that was in his possession which was in his car trunk of all places was her pendant. Not even the whole necklace. So how do you know that he was the person to commit the crime. How do you know that the pendant wasn’t planted because there was NOTHING ELSE TO LINK HIM TO THIS CRIME. Other than him having a background and he seemed to be the best person to take down.

The master key lock for all the hotel rooms was checked out that day by Jones and never returned. The most damning evidence was the woman’s one of a kind necklace found in his toolbox. He changed his story multiple times about how he hurt his hand. Just watch the forensic files episode. You trying to tell us he was cooperative is a joke.

Loved your response! I googled “Elwood Jones innocent” after watching Forensic Files because something about his conviction didn’t sit right with me. I have seen hundreds of crime shows and have never done that without it being mentioned as a possiblity. After coming upon a page with info showing another man confessed to the crime I was flabbergasted! How could that not even be considered by police?! I’m not saying Elwood is innocent but I do think he is entitled to a new trial with that info disclosed to attorney. I haven’t read everything but I don’t see how he was found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

Absolutely he is guilty. I know there are genuine wrongly convicted but Elwood Jones is as guilty as sin. Eichinella Corodans comes from punching someone in the mouth hard enough to break your skin. One tooth was found in her stomach. That is how hard he punched her. Let alone her ‘one off’necklace in his toolbox but oh that was planted. What a joke. Bring on that lethal injection NOW.

Fact 1 No blood in his car. No DNA .
Fact 2 The pendant was not unique as the family later stated .
Fact 3 The eikinella infection has been found on at least 5 intra uterine contraceptive devices and unborn babies have contracted this infection in the uterus . So have two boys in Ohio from licking their fingers . Elwood was tested after a course of Abs which would have eliminated the infection. Oro genital contact is another way this can be spread . Check the internet . A man gets bitten during an encounter with a sex worker . It’s all on the internet if people only looked .
Fact 4 This was an out of hospital resuscitation and every probability that the teeth were damaged during introduction of the bladed laryngoscope during intubation .
Fact 5. The Forensics have stated he was a hotel handyman . That is incorrect . He worked in the banqueting suite .
Fact 6 . The purse was returned to the relatives without being DNA tested and the friends were later contacted to send the purse back from Florida for DNA testing . Evidence already destroyed.
Fact 7 There were about 15 people in the room which would have contaminated the crime scene .
Fact 8 . The burglaries continued long after Elwood resigned .
Fact 9 There were two men seen leaving the room which have never been identified .
Fact 10The physician wrote an article that Elwood watched the guests in that room the previous evening ! He wasn’t on duty . He did an early shift .
Fact 11So many hotel employees took keys home . There were no checks in place
Fact 12 The pendant was most probably removed during attempts at establishing an IV line . The jugular or otherwise .Picked up and how it ended up in the car is your guess .
Fact 13 Why was Elwood allowed to work elsewhere and walk around Ohio for over a year if he was deemed that dangerous ? All of you reading this ask yourselves that question ?
This man deserves a new hearing but keeps getting postponed . Why ? A lot of people will have egg on their faces .
I urge you keep an open mind and what you hear is not necessarily the true events . Police zoned in on him as he fit the profile to the total exclusion of all others. Thank you for reading this

Elwood initially said he had injured his hand by cutting it on a dumpster at work that morning. He later told OTHER coworkers he cut it repairing some stairs. When he almost died from this hand infection, the doctor cultured the pus they got out of his hand and the bacteria was consistent with bacteria ONLY found when a tooth is BROKEN, it cannot be gotten by simply sticking your hand in your mouth or someone else’s. I have personally seen this kind of deadly infection in someones hand after they came in a day or two after a fist fight and they had punched someone in the mouth, usually with a lacerated knuckle. Like Elwood almost died from. And lo and behold, this poor lady had TWO teeth knocked out. One was found on the floor near her body, the other in her stomach. Amazing how this story above leaves these facts out.

I see you only have half of the story. Which you seem to site Forensic Files Verbatim. When I have actually seen, and read the file the actual case file not just watched it on television. Don’t believe everything you see on TV it will rot your brain or what is left of it

I was there, in the room and saw Rhoda as she lay dying. How did he “know” the room was empty? His girlfriend must have told him we were downstairs having breakfast. Who had the key to the room and was present at the hotel and not on duty at that time? We were only out of the room for half an hour, if that. Reading a file does not make you an expert. So tell me, if he didn’t punch Rhoda in the mouth, who’s mouth did he get the infection from? And why did he tell different stories about how he acquired that infection? And he probably showered and changed his clothes at the hotel. And why did he keep the key and say he returned it?

Plus he had the dead woman’s gold and diamond necklace in his possession. Duh. Innocent my foot….you know what, they say up to 10% OF FOLKS IN JAIL ARE INNOCENT. I do not have a problem believing that and it is a horrible number. But considering all the evidence that this website leaves OUT showing WHY this jackal was found guilty, I do not think they are helping their cause any by trying to get off murderers who are so obviously guilty. SMH.

Her PENDANT not the necklace was the only TRUE thing think could link him. The chain was never forensically tested for her blood or skin. His shoes didn’t match the bloody footprint in her room there was none of her blood on his clothing which would have had to be some type of cast off if he hit her in the mouth. Nothing and the bacteria could have come from ANY human beings mouth being that it is ONLY IN THE HUMAN MOUTH. Does not mean it came from her mouth. Stick to being barefoot and pregnant and watch how I get him a new trial. Although this page is not mine I’ll be representing him after all that I have found.

Yes, it was 100% identified as the pendant on the necklace she wore around her neck and never ever took off. It was a one of a kind design her husband had made, based on the design of his mother’s wedding ring.

Good luck with that. He is guilty. You obviously have never had a fist to the mouth with such force that one tooth is rammed down your throat. The only blood would be on his hand. The mouth is full of mucosa and you don’t ‘cast off’ blood and mucous in that case. Her head would have been forced out of his direct path. I am an E.R Nurse and have seen many injured hands from men punching people. If they have blood on them it is usually their own IF they break the skin. Elwood Jones is guilty af. If he didn’t why make up BS stories about how he was injured? Who else did he punch in the mouth at the exact time and day that Rhoda was murdered? Bring on that injection.

The infection in his hand was caused by bacteria from a human mouth, not a dumpster or a hand rail. He couldn’t even keep his story straight on how he was injured. He also had the victim’s necklace. What reason would the cops have to frame him? Really, think about it. They didn’t have any reason to do so.

some folks are able form an intelligent opinion based on a series of facts …. other folks are not. I side with a guilty verdict in this case…. The judge and district atty., police and Dr. who operated on the convict are not complicit in some grand frame up job…. Elwood H Jones had a rap sheet for theft … was that a frame up job as well? His past record of crime? The evidence speaks for itself and it went beyond the reasonable doubt threshold for me. He deserves a date with death.

The killer carried and used a door chain in the beating. Why would a burglar carry a doorchain but a handyman would

Chest marks appear to be from a radio similar to one he carried and nothing else in the room was matched to the marks on her chest
Chances are the police did plant the pendant as i seriously doubt elwood would have kept it. The lack of any dna details makes me assume they never tested it or there wasn’t any as if their was it would link to someone else or not link to him neither of which happened.
Saying elwood agreed to questioning does not in any way show he is innocent as refusing would draw attention towards him
